The Chatham Health District inspects public swimming pools within the District. A public pool is any pool other than those at a single-family owner occupied residence. All pools that are open for public use must comply with Section 19-13-B33b of the Connecticut Public Health Code.
District Sanitarians conduct a comprehensive pool inspection to ensure that the pool is equipped with all the necessary safety equipment, including:
Any deficiencies in pool structure or water quality are discussed with the pool operator and addressed in a timely manner. In the event that unsafe or unsanitary conditions pose a public health risk, the District Sanitarian takes immediate steps to close the pool until the pool is brought up to code.
Public swimming pools are inspected on a routine basis to ensure compliance with the requirements of the CT Public Health Code. There are 8 seasonal and 1 year-round public pool in the District. Inspections focus on pool water chemistry/disinfection, safety equipment, filtration and general cleanliness.
The term “Public Pool” includes schools, health clubs, motels/hotels, apartments, condominiums and private clubs. Complaints” concerning the operation or condition of a public pool should be directed to a District office.
